The Dutch Academy for Orthopedic Medicine (Cyriax) ? gives excellent students, after following the full orthopedic medicine course, and completing the orthopedic medicine exam, the opportunity to follow a program for Teacher in Orthopaedic Medicine.

In addition to obtaining good study results, other factors also play a role such as good language proficiency in word and writing, well-behaved appearance, didactic and pedagogical qualities.

The teacher training has a three-phase structure( three years).

Phase 1: The first year the assistant teacher joins the entire course. In doing so, he / she assists the senior lecturer during practical assignments that the

students must perform. The first year also serves to give the assistant-lecturer the opportunity to evaluate whether it is a right choice to follow the teacher training. The senior lecturer can then also better assess whether it is a right choice.

After the first year, a theoretical exam will be taken, in which basic sciences will be tested. The subjects are: biomechanics, biochemistry, morphology and general pathology. If this exam is successfully passed, the assistant teacher will be given access to the second year of training.

Phase 2: During the second year of training, the assistant teacher will complete a number of practical assignments, which will be demonstrated to the students during the course. The senior lecturer will assess the presentation, communication and technical execution of the assignments. This year is finished with a theoretical Examination of knowledge of orthopedic pathology. If this exam is successfully passed, the assistant teacher will be given access to the third year of training.

Phase 3: In the third year of training, the assistant teacher gives theoretical

presentations and practical demonstrations. During this year, particular

attention will be given to didactics and pedagogics.

The year will be completed by providing a full day of teaching, which will be assessed by the senior lecturer. If the assessment is found to be sufficient, the assistant teacher receives the diploma "Teacher in Orthopaedic Medicine", and may be appointed as a lecturer at the Dutch Academy for Orthopedic Medicine.

During the entire program the assistant teacher receives information on

relevant literature.
